General informations

Get the theoretical basics and practical knowledge to get a flight instructor rating and start training new pilots.

If you have the desire and feel you have the skills to train new pilots, then the instructor rating is right for you. The instructor rating allows you to train new pilots for a PPL(A) license right after passing the exam. Initially you’ll teach under supervision until your first 100 hours of teaching, and then you can independently teach pilots without supervision or a »mentor«. After some experience, you can also decide to advance to CRI, IRI, and another higher level in TRI.

At the Portorož Airport or by the agreement at the Postojna and Ljubljana Airport

What else do I need to get my license?

Completed CPL(A) course OR
PPL(A) by reaching the minimum requirements for accessing to CPL(A) and ATPL(A) theory, and must have the following experience (minimum experience): 200 hours of total time on aircraft, 150 hours of flying Flight Manager as PIC, 30 hours of flying single-engine piston airplane (SEP), 6 hours of flight on aircraft 6 months before ATO pre-test, 10 hours of instrumental flying training, 20 hours of VFR flights as Flight Manager (PIC), navigational flight, longer than 540 km (300 NM) with stops at two non-departure airports

The course of education

Theoretical part

The course consists of 125 hours of theory, performed in the classroom. Of 125 hours, there are 25 hours of Teaching and Learning, and 100 hours of practical classes, where you teach the instructor or a pilot candidate. During the Teach and Learn you learn how to approach the syllabus, how to pass the knowledge forward, how to resolve the problems during the learning process, and many other things that will come in handy for your future career as the instructor. Some of the items are listed below:

learning processes, pedagogy, teaching methods, teaching techniques, administration management.

* Lectures are usually held in the afternoon hours two days a week or by agreement

Practical part

The course consists of 30 hours of flying, and is divided into several parts:

4 hours and 30 minutes for getting familiar with the airplane (flight modes, turns),
5 hours and 30 minutes for continued flying (getting to know the stall, pulling out of the stall, sharp turns, …)
4 hours of navigation flying including engine failure simulation, low altitude flying, landing for precautionary reasons, …
FNPT II – 5 hours of training for instrument flying
6 hours of radio navigation or instrument flying
5 hours of flying at night
