After takeoff from airport Postojna, we fly over the beautiful countryside, which leads us to the village Unec, where we see the Unec Collapse Valley, a valley, which is one of the largest Slovenian valleys with precipitous walls about 100m high. In its immediate vicinity, there are located border military bunkers from the period between the two wars.
We continue towards the town Rakek, where we see the magnificent church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, enlarged and remodeled by the renowned Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik. Among his creations is one of the most monumental examples of cemetery architecture, the honor monument of Žagar’s tomb, which is inscribed on the register of cultural heritage.
We continue our flight towards Cerknica, where numerous sights are located, including the Škocjan Caves (a system of water caves, through which the river Reka runs, known for its geological formations), the beautiful spacious Lake Cerknica (the intermittent lake, which lies in the southern part of Cerknica field – the second largest Slovenian karst field), the unique castle Snežnik (the only museum of living culture and one of the rare castles that boasts with original equipment) and numerous caves.
